1799 B.15 (R-3). Irregular date, Reverse of 1798. Choice About Uncirculated. A lustrous and pleasing coin that boasts rich teal and rose colors over both sides. There is a minor planchet defect on the obverse rim near 8 o'clock that is also seen on the reverse rim. For die variety collectors, this is the only 1799 obverse die which was paired with a still usable reverse die from 1798. The end of the branch has a die crack which extends to the rim near the tail, and die cracks, lumps and rust are seen in the fields despite the reverse having been lapped to lesson these effects. An impressive example of this popular variety that is likely close to or just within the Condition Census of the top half dozen known for the pairing.
Ex The Hetrich Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, January 1982, lot 1756).
