Napoleonic Duchy of Warsaw. Friedrich August, 1807-1814. Dukat, 1812 IB. Bust r. in peruke of King...Napoleonic Duchy of Warsaw. Friedrich August, 1807-1814. Dukat, 1812 IB. Bust r. in peruke of King of Saxony and Duke of Warsaw. Rv. Crowned oval shield in palm wreath. Fr.68, KM Cr.88. Despite the entreaties of the Polish nobility and his mistress Countess Maria Walewska, Napoleon only toyed with restoring Polish independence. As a nod in that direction, the Duchy of Warsaw existed until the catastrophe of the Grand Army in the invasion of Russia. This pleasing example of a 2-year type displays distinctly prooflike flash highlighting its bold strike. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. (Est. $1,500-$2,000)
