Splendidly bold detail testifies to an outstanding strike, and pleasing copper-red toning increases the coin's attraction. One of only 760 struck, making this date a determining key to this series in any condition. The Dannreuther-Garrett auction study shows only 18 of this date appearing at auction in a decade. Since none of these were notably finer than the piece presented here, it should place close to the top of any roster in terms of grade, eye appeal and collector interest.

From the Lawrence C. Licht Collection.
