Betts 574. Escape of Dutch Fishing Fleet Medal, 1781. Silver, 31mm, 11.2 grams. By Adriaan van Baerll. About Uncirculated. Obv. Fishing fleet flees after Jacobus van der Wint's warning of coming British attack. Rev. 13-line Dutch inscription. When the Netherlands joined the League of Armed Neutrality in the American Revolution, the British retaliated by seizing 200 Dutch merchant ships worth 15 million Gulden. Tawny gold-gray toning gives this medal bold appeal.
