Originally the Jackson Light Infantry, the unit was mustered in at Camp Scott on Staten Island June to July, 1861 and mustered out on July 30, 1864. The regiment saw action at Yorktown, the Seven Days, Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Second Manassas, Chantilly, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg.
