1723 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. N.5. Gem Uncirculated. 117.0 gns. A broadstruck, somewhat jumbo piece 28.2mm diameter, both sides are an interesting light blue-brown and rosy brown. There are suggestive hints of mint color on the reverse. Both surfaces are granular, particularly so on George's chin and cheek (as if he had not shaved that day). Deep planchet flaw across the base of George's bust engaging his hair to the left and reaching almost to the tip of the truncation at the right. Considerable extra metal can be seen beyond the beaded borders on both sides.
Ex Richard Collection (New York Coin & Stamp Company, June 30, 1899, lot 555); F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
