Founded by King Kalakaua to recognize service to science, art and humanity, this Order was awarded only 177 times in all grades during his reign, three more times by his successor, Hawaii's last monarch, Queen Liliuokalani. Only 20 Commander's Badges were awarded. All Royal Hawaiian Orders are of the greatest rarity and historic interest, but the number of collectible examples existing today is minute.
