Oil City Bank. $5.00. D. Oil City, PA. September 15, 1864. India paper Face Proof by American Bank...Oil City Bank. $5.00. D. Oil City, PA. September 15, 1864. India paper Face Proof by American Bank Note Co. New-York. Green frame, grill protectors and green '5' counter at the upper left. Union soldiers reading, titled News From Home. This vignette designed by Felix Darley and engraved by Smillie and Rice. At the lower left are two women, one with scythe. At the lower right is Washington seated in library. Haxby PA-380 G6a. The issued notes used green security backs. The issued notes of this and the $10.00 are most common. However, they bore the brunt of the circulation in Oil City and the vicinity. This is another superb impression. Bold and vivid with wonderful color. Pressed professionally by Barrows, Richmond, Virginia at one time. Superb color and scheme and vignette layout. Superb color and brightness. Very Choice.
