Planters and Mechanics Bank. $5.00. A. Dalton, GA. 1850's. India paper Proof by Wellstood, Hanks,...Planters and Mechanics Bank. $5.00. A. Dalton, GA. 1850's. India paper Proof by Wellstood, Hanks, Hay & Whiting, New York. Payable to 'Geo. S. Fisher'. At the top center is a farmer and wife by a water trough (vignette used on the Bank of the Republic, Providence, RI $10). At the lower right is seated Commerce with '5' and at the lower left is a custom vignette of 'LAND AND INSURANCE' office and bank building, shown in three quarter view, of 'GEO. S. FISHER'. At the top is 'BANK' and over the busy doorway is 'BANK OF OTTAWA'. The bank building is possibly the Bank of Ottawa in Illinois. Haxby GA-150 G12 SENC. The imprint was unknown to Haxby. The first we have seen of this series and an extremely important Georgia type. The lower left corner has a deft repair by Barrows. Overall, Choice.
