Bank of Lowville. $25.00. A. Lowville, NY. 1850's. India paper Proof by Wellstood, Hanks, Hay & Whiting,...Bank of Lowville. $25.00. A. Lowville, NY. 1850's. India paper Proof by Wellstood, Hanks, Hay & Whiting, New York. Male portrait at the top right center, supported by cherubs. At the left a hay wagon heads up a road adjacent to a canal. At the far right end the Bank die between two '25' counters. Haxby NY-1270 G28 SENC.

An important odd denomination on New York State. Although there are several $25.00 notes from other states that we know of (most from Mississippi), we do not recall a $25.00 note on New York except for the Chemical Bank on the 1830's Durand series. This note is a wonderful discovery in this archive of mostly unique Wellstood proof notes that Mr. Ford has owned for decades and are now offered to the collecting fraternity for the first time. This proof will be a showpiece in the next New York State obsolete proof note collection it next enters. Like many of the Ford Collection items, mere money will not procure another example after the fall of the hammer. One corner tip repair and a top edge tear sealed. Very Choice.
