State of New York Bank. $5.00. A. Kingston, NY. 1850's. India paper Proof by Wellstood, Hanks, Hay & Whiting, New York. View of the Kingston Academy, well detailed with unusual carriage in the foreground. At the upper left is a supported 'V', below is the Bank die. At the lower right Peter Stuyvesant. Haxby NY-1165 G8 SENC. The first of this vignette type we have seen and likely to be a custom design for the bank. The description comes from the Gwynne and Day reporter which was the foundation for the majority of Wismer's listing of notes he did not see (which was most). Could very well be a unique note. The lower right corner is rejoined, but fully Very Choice. Less than perfection means nothing when a replacement may be nearly impossible. An important New York note.
