Bust right/presentation inscription. About Uncirculated. Some corrosion in the fields. Struck from the broken state of the obverse. Quite rare. Duncan graduated West Point in 1831. He was breveted major for gallantry at Palo Alto on May 8, 1846, lieutenant colonel for gallantry at Resaca de la Palma the next day, and colonel for gallantry at Monterey on September 23, 1846. He died on July 3, 1849 from the cumulative effects of gallantry.
