UTAH. Great Salt Lake City Corporation. 50 Cents. No.1479. No plate letter. G.[reat] S.[alt] L.[ake] City, U.T. Sept. 4, 1865, the '186' is engraved. Signed by Robert Campbell. Printed face and back by Ferd. Mayer & Co., 99 Fulton St. N.Y. The face identical to the 25¢ note with statue of Freedom at left as adapted from early Legal Tender $5.00 notes, at the right is a beehive symbolizing Industry with the green protector in the center. Text 'Redeemable in U.S. Legal Tenders' at the center. The back is green with denomination protectors. Unlisted in Rust, similar to the style of Figure 108 (page 98). A note type that Rust believed existed, but did not have in his collection in 1982 when he published his book. This note is fully signed and issued. In our incredible offering of Mormon Currency sold in the Ford VI Sale in October, 2004, we offered an archival remainder or Specimen note, perhaps from Mayer & Co. archives. That note realized $1,100.00 (plus the 15% buyer's charge). As an issued note it is even more significant. About Fine, some foxing and minor soiling. Very pleasing grade for a rarity of this genre.
Ex C.E. Nebeker, February 9, 1962.
