CONNECTICUT. Fairfield Loan & Trust Company. 1837. Set of 50 Cents, $1-1/4, $1-1/2, $1-3/4, and $2.00. A well engraved set of fully issued notes by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson. Well vignetted with each note using United States coin vignettes for protectors. Well matched for grade and average a strong Very Fine. 5 pieces.
To prevent note raising, the coin vignettes would match the denomination of the notes. For example the $2.00 note uses two silver dollar vignettes, the $1.25 note uses two half dollars and a quarter and so forth. This was a useful layout and made it impossible to raise a note. The bad news for note holders was the issuer went defunct due to the financial panic in 1837-1838.
