CALIFORNIA. Miners Bank of Savings of Alta-California. 25 Cents in Gold Dust. St. Francisco. Early...CALIFORNIA. Miners Bank of Savings of Alta-California. 25 Cents in Gold Dust. St. Francisco. Early 1850's. Gavit & Co. Albany. Steamship between two '25' counters. At each end are panels with written denomination. Unissued as always seen. Any signatures we have encountered on this series have appeared to be false. A very scarce and popular series. We believe this issuer is not related to the Miners Bank of San Francisco operated by Wright and Haight. The hyphenated 'Alta-' is not a town, but a reference to upper California (as opposed to the southern or Baja region). Some ink bleed through at the left. Solid Fine or better.

Ex Ralph Goldstone, December 13, 1963.
