State of Maryland. June 28, 1780 Act. Eight Dollars. No.1272. Signed by Walker and Dickinson; countersigned on the back by B.[enjamin] Harwood. Printed on thin paper, watermarked 'UNITED/STATES'. Standard size, face and back designs, and Hall and Sellers imprint. Back vignette of a thirteen stringed (for the thirteen colonies) harp, motto MAJORA MINORIBUS CONSONANT. There were 6,922 notes printed of this type, the same as all the others on the sheets. This is the first of three stunning Eight Dollar notes from this series, all hand-cut from original sheets long ago during the ''good old days'' at Wayte Raymond's office or other numismatic dens of pioneering Colonial paper currency study.
An awesome note that is nearly perfect and the finest we have seen. Exceptional paper quality, immaculate surfaces, deep and ever present embossing, and back color. Gem Crisp Uncirculated. Complete margins on the face and only narrow at the upper right corner. Though razor narrow margined on the back, it is all on the paper and this is extremely rare to be seen in this fashion. As such, a superb example for the finest collection. Worthy of being ''off the charts'' in our opinion.
