Continental Congress. February 17, 1776 Resolution. Three Dollars. No.56589. Signed by Coats and Williams....Continental Congress. February 17, 1776 Resolution. Three Dollars. No.56589. Signed by Coats and Williams. Paper, size, styles, and imprint as previous. Motif and motto as used on the May 10, 1775 Session and November 29, 1775 Resolution notes. True gems are very hard to come by on all series of Continental Currency these days. This note is bold and nearly Gem. Very clean and well printed on both sides. Choice Crisp Uncirculated. The face margins are complete and even. The centering on both sides is perfect. There is some faint handling along the top edge and on the corners. Perhaps, worth a Gem price based on eye appeal.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.

On Continental Currency, it is easy to get to Gem condition (just be as printed and cut from the sheet perfectly), but hard to stay there. There may have been sheets and some small hoards left over from long ago, but the ravages of time have taken their toll. Gorgeous notes such as this were once mounted in scrapbooks or relegated to ''junk'' boxes in coin shops of the 1950's and 1960's. All this while transactions of ''hot items'' such as rolls and dollars could cross the counter in a frenzy of commercialism viewed by Mr. Ford with amusement while he bought genuine rarities of numismatic Americana such as this. Visionary and true numismatists like Chapman, Boyd, Clarke, and Ford carried these notes forward to the next generations with care and honor. Here and there, a minor ding or bang might be expected, and that is why true Gems are so very rare.
