Uniface, standard size approximately 100mm by 80mm. Typeset, ornamental border cuts. Obligation seen on this series only, ''An Act for more effectual and speedy clothing for the Army.'' This is a rare series of notes and has always been popular. The authorization was included in the printed back note. The Revolutionary flavor of this series has always made it a favorite. We have handled only one note in recent memory and that was in our May, 2006 Sale. The majority known are damaged, flawed, and/or repaired in some way.
The Ford-Boyd Collection Sale here offers four different denominations which is an event that has not occurred in recent memory. Amazingly the 1975 New Netherlands Affleck-Ball Sale contained five notes from this series including a potential finest known $500 note (when they said ''Extremely Fine'', they meant it). This example is no gem, but a very useful type note. Very Good to Fine. Solid paper on the interior of the note, but the perimeter has some minor fraying, corner rounding and a folded over edge. Lightly toned over well printed surfaces. Quite an attractive note still on a very popular and historic issue type.
