South Carolina. February 8, 1779 Ordinance. One Hundred Dollars (£ 162:10:0). Athena Vignette. GLORIAE FUNDAMENTUM FORTITUDO. Engraved face and back by Thomas Coram, Palmetto, Drums, and Flags. No.1915. Signed by Atkins, Weston and Smyth. Printed on thick, white paper stock. Standard size, approximately 122mm by 75mm. The top face with ornate cursive 'HUNDRED DOLLARS', numerical denomination in small cartouche at the bottom and wide left border with larger cartouche '100/Dollars'. Floral pattern border on bottom. Back vignette (parallel to face) within four banners, three at the top and one at the bottom.
This is the fourth and final note from the original authorization, which specified only 3,000 notes of this denomination. This note is considered a key type on the series and has a premium catalogue value in Newman. Bright from the face and appealing. Very Fine or so. Vertical quarter folds with short splits at the top and bottom center. Close margins on the face with a clipped lower left corner. The back is centered way down and off the paper. Two petty back foxing spots and a small central spindle hole. All there, not repaired and more going for it than most we have seen.
