South Carolina. October 19, 1776 Ordinance. Eight Dollars (Thirteen Pounds). Wind on Rock Vignette. IMPAVIDE. No.1693[?, faint]. Signed by J.[ohn] S. Dart, Berwick and William Parker[vertically, to the right]. Printed on coarse, thick brownish paper. Standard size, approximately 95mm by 75mm. Face style similar to March 6, 1776 with border cuts enclosing text, vignette and motto at lower right. Ornamental printed back with hour glasses surrounding an 'VIII'. The back is ''coin turn'' orientation to the face. There were 2,500 notes printed of this type.
This is very choice grade for any note from this series. For this note, virtually immaculate surfaces. This is the highest grade note we have seen from this issue date. Extremely Fine. Horizontal bending over the centerline with a ridge to the face and light lower right corner fold. The paper is very crisp with no ''softness'' as characteristic to this paper type. Bright with close margins, but complete. The back is skewed to the right and slightly off the paper. However, exceptional paper and brightness certainly compensate for that. Faint back corner pencil code. This should be a tremendous upgrade for many collectors as this is superb.
