South Carolina. March 6, 1776 Resolve. One Hundred Pounds. Thirteen Hearts Vignette. QUIS SEPARABIT. No.1168. Signed by William Gibbes [vertically to the left], Motte, Savage and Alex.[ander] Moultrie. Printed on blue laid paper. Larger format, approximately 140mm by 90mm. Denomination at left in cursive, at the right larger medallion with vignette and motto. Ornate printed back, perpendicular to the face. DEUS PUGNAVIT ET DISSIPANTUR. These were printed on blue and white laid paper types. Like the Fifty Pounds, this is from a rarer style on the Resolve and when encountered, they are generally damaged. There were 2,000 notes printed of this type, making it the rarest on the issue date in terms of print run.
Most known notes are damaged in some way. About Fine or so. Not repaired and that is great news. However, heavy quarter folds with splits at top and bottom. Other minor edge splits and handling. The note is ''soft,'' but still rather bright and attractive from the face. Small pen endorsement on the back field. Quite handsome and most of all: untampered with by bad note doctors of decades past.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
The motto translates to ''Who Will Separate.''
