South Carolina. March 6, 1776 Resolve. Fifty Pounds. Trophies Vignette. ANIMIS OPIBUSQUE PARATI. No.74. Signed by ? [faint, vertically to left], Motte, Huger and Roger Smith. Printed on blue laid paper, visible crown watermark. Larger format, approximately 140mm by 90mm. Denomination at left in cursive, at the right larger medallion with vignette and motto. Ornate printed back, perpendicular to the face. DEUS PUGNAVIT ET DISSIPANTUR. These were printed on blue and white laid paper types. This is a rarer style (though the typeset bills are least seen) on the Resolve and when encountered, are generally damaged. There were 3,700 notes printed of this type.
Fine Plus. Heavy vertical crease, but both halves fairly sharp and solid. The blue paper wore quite well. A short split at the top and bottom center with the bottom one patched. Well margined mostly with very tiny nicks in the wide left margin. Upper left back corner endorsed by Wm. Gibbs (a note signer) with the ink bleeding to the upper right corner of the face. A tough note and fairly solid.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
