South Carolina. March 6, 1776 Resolve. Twenty Five Pounds. Flourishing Tree and Fallen Tree Vignette. MELIOREM LAPSA LOCAVIT. No.5097. Signed by Motte, Huger, Jn. Mathews and William Parker. Printed on laid paper. Standard size, approximately 120mm by 80mm. Uniface, elaborate border cuts. Vignette and motto at lower right. A second example of this note with excellent symbolism seen on Colonial paper currency in the 1776-1777 years. There were 5,200 notes printed. Also printed on white paper. Fine Plus. Lightly toned. Solid and not split, just multiple folds that are mostly clustered down the center and with back soiling. Multiple period pen endorsements on the back. Quite pleasing.
