Colony of Rhode Island. January 15, 1776. Forty Shillings. No.994. Signed by Wanton, Greene and Cole....Colony of Rhode Island. January 15, 1776. Forty Shillings. No.994. Signed by Wanton, Greene and Cole. Printed on laid paper. 75mm by 108mm. Printed on both sides, standard Rhode Island style. Within three border cuts are typeset texts, Rhode Island seal at left, signatures at bottom. Ornamental pattern back from edge to edge, 'Forty/Shillings' at center. Imprint 'Printed by/JOHN CARTER'. There were 4,000 notes printed of this second highest denomination on the series.

A beautifully crisp and deeply embossed note. Clean, bright, and natural paper surfaces. Paper quality-wise, one of the finest known. About Extremely Fine. Light horizontal center fold, top half bending, and some perimeter handling. Mostly well margined, but the upper right corner is soft and rounded in. Tiny central pinhole. If not for the soft corner, the note would be an exceptional example. However, this is a very minor flaw on an otherwise outstanding note.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
