Colony of Rhode Island. January 15, 1776. Thirty Shillings. No.1961. Signed by Congdon, Dexter and Wanton. Printed on laid paper. 70mm by 103mm. Printed on both sides, standard Rhode Island style. Within three border cuts are typeset texts, Rhode Island seal at left, signatures at bottom. Ornamental pattern back from edge to edge, 'Thirty/Shillings' at center. Imprint 'Printed by/JOHN CARTER'. There were 6,000 notes printed of this denomination.
On this type, we can't imagine a finer note to exist. A bold example for the type and series. Another note that is possibly the finest known of the type. About Extremely Fine. Light horizontal fold, top diagonal fold, and long corner folds. Strong paper and excellent embossing. Tightly margined in places with slightly nicked upper right corner with an adjacent small ink stain.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
