Colony of Rhode Island. November 6, 1775. Forty Shillings. Due within Five Years. No.134-. Signed by Dexter, Clark and Cole. Printed on laid paper. 67mm by 109mm. Printed on both sides, standard Rhode Island style. Within three border cuts are typeset texts, Rhode Island seal at left, signatures at bottom. Ornamental pattern back from edge to edge, 'Forty/Shillings' at center. Imprint 'Printed by/JOHN CARTER'. The highest denomination on this scarce Act with only 1,500 notes printed. Though they would not have circulated as heavily as the lower denominations, the print run is small.
This is another impressive example and the companion for perhaps a century or more with the above Thirty Shillings. Choice Extremely Fine. The paper surfaces are virtually immaculate. Light horizontal fold, seen mostly from the back with a very short right edge slit, some other light handling and very subtle toning. Under light, the upper right corner is pinholed and a small pinhole in the center.
Like several notes in the collection, this note is paper rim mounted from the back for display. Cleanly done with no visible glue residue to the well margined face edges. This is another electric note in this epic selection of high end Rhode Island Colonial. We are only at the end of November 6, 1775 and we have seen perhaps several of the highest grade notes for their types in the universe!
