Colony of Rhode Island. June 29, 1775. Thirty Shillings or One Pound Ten Shillings. With 2.5% Interest, Due within Two Years. No.1910. Signed by Bowler, Cole and Clark. Printed on laid paper. 69mm by 105mm. Printed on both sides, standard Rhode Island style. Within three border cuts are typeset texts, Rhode Island seal at left, signatures at bottom. Ornamental pattern back, 'One Pound/Ten Shillings' at center. No imprint, printed by John Carter. There were only 2,000 note emitted of this type. A rare issue date with this being the highest grade note on the Act in the Ford-Boyd Collection.
This is another very riveting grade note. Despite being paper rim mounted long ago, the note is close to brand new in appearance. Along with the Newman Plate note, this is certainly one of the finest notes on the Act date. Very Fine. Bold and crisp still. Horizontal fold and long corner diagonal fold. Moderate handling. Trimmed very closely on all four sides and lightly toned. Thin paper rim mounted from the back in an old-time style (see Ford III, lot 501-the 1690 Massachusetts Bill of Credit for example). Penciled 1923 sale notation on left paper rim and ''unlisted'' [Scott's Colonial note listing was used then]. The rim mounting on the back aside, another stunning Rhode Island note.
