Colony of Rhode Island. June 16, 1775. Thirty Shillings or One Pound Ten Shillings. With 2.5% Interest, Due within Two Years. No.1694. Signed by Cole and Bowler. Printed on thin, very white laid paper. 73mm by 104mm. Printed on both sides, standard Rhode Island style. Within three border cuts are typeset texts, Rhode Island seal at left, signatures at bottom. Ornamental pattern back, 'One Pound/Ten Shillings' at center. No imprint, printed by John Carter. There were only 2,000 notes authorized.
An unusual note, printed on a very white paper type and not the subtle tannish paper used on other notes in the Collection. The face plate diagnostics are a bit ''washy'' and perhaps this is due to a late plate state. Fine to Very Fine. Still rather crisp, but with splits on the crease and a top fold. Both are glassine strip repaired from the back. Well margined and displaying only moderate soiling. Chapman pencil codes at the back upper left corner and Boyd's pencil code, ''myxx'' at bottom left back.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
