Colony of Rhode Island. May 3, 1775. Thirty Shillings or One Pound Ten Shillings. With 2.5% Interest, Due within Two Years. No.3126. Signed by Bowler and Clarke. Printed on thin paper. 80mm by 119mm. Printed on both sides, standard Rhode Island style. Within three border cuts are typeset texts, Rhode Island seal at left, signatures at bottom. Ornamental pattern back. No imprint, printed by John Carter. The Newman Plate Note, so illustrated on page 389 of the fourth edition. Another tough note in any grade, however the grade on this series is magnificent. It was worthy enough to be used as the Newman plate note and, up to that time, must have been the finest note on the issue he had seen.
Bright, very crisp with deep embossing. Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Moderate crease with short left and right side splits. Moderate corner and some other handling. Well margined and centered. Foxing patch at the center of the text and showing to the back. Period penned ''40/'' at bottom back. Pencil code at back bottom corner. A riveting note for those who know the average grade seen is Fair.
