Signed by J.[acob] Lewis, Cha.[rles] Thomson, and Sam.[uel] Rhoads [Jr.]. Printed on thinner coarse stock. Standard large vertical format Pennsylvania size, approximately 75mm by 90mm. Uniface, typeset face with border cuts and Penn Arms at lower left side. Like the One Shilling notes, there were 30,000 notes authorized using four plate positions. A scarce series with high grade notes being great rarities.
This is a second incredible census topping note from a group of notes clustered around a close serial number range (note, two serial numbers from the next note). This note is an immaculate example and might be the finest known note (the next note raises an argument on its behalf) on the entire issue. It is for the collector of any numismatic Americana that appreciates the finest. Despite its simplicity, future generations will look upon this note with awe.
Choice Crisp Uncirculated and certainly can be called a Gem without much guilt. Where is this note's equal or superior? Bright as the day it was printed with the deepest embossing imaginable seen on the uniface back. The mica on the face glitters with a mesmerizing effect. To list the trivial, there is a faint foxing spot on the face seen on the back, some old-time collector handling on the corners and the upper right end margin is sliver close. All ''Bettering House Money'' notes condition-wise are measured downwards from this exceptional example. Simply, unbelievable!
