Pennsylvania notes fell into three basic style and size formats: small format change bill, horizontal format, and vertical format. This would help facilitate counting and differentiate quickly by feel the rough note type. On this series, only the vertical format was used to permit the lengthier text obligation. Later series of notes, with more denominations, sometime came with all three formats.
