State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Four Hundred Dollars. Mutare vel timere Sperno. No.1804....State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Four Hundred Dollars. Mutare vel timere Sperno. No.1804. Signed by Cooke and Coore. Printed on thick laid paper with visible palisade (J. Whatman) watermark at lower left. Typeset face with ornamental borders. Simple pattern back, similar to 1778 notes, with imprint 'Printed by JAMES DAVIS, 1780'. The only $400 note on the series and State with an undisclosed print run. The printing likely to be 1,000 notes of both paper type and perhaps less. A lovely note, very solid and bright from the face. The back is printed a little lighter than the face.

Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Vertical fold, slightly diagonal to the axis. Long lower right corner fold and a few short corner creases. Long hinge strip along the back top edge. The eye appeal is of a nearly ''new'' note and worth a premium well above the technical grade.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
