State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Twenty Five Dollars. Quid non virtute efficiendum. No.2613....State of North Carolina. May 10, 1780 Act. Twenty Five Dollars. Quid non virtute efficiendum. No.2613. Signed by Green Jr. and Coore. Printed on thin laid paper. Typeset face with ornamental borders. Simple pattern back, similar to 1778 notes, with imprint 'Printed by James Davis, 1780'. A third example of this motto, but on thin white laid paper stock.

The eye appeal of Gem at first glance. Choice Extremely Fine. A long lower right diagonal fold, not creased and seen from the back. Very minor corner handling. Perfectly centered and printed. Immensely underrated compared to 1776 Delaware notes and March 25, 1776 New Jersey notes which will often realize similar prices in the same auction sale. That deserves to end tonight in regards to these high end grade 1780 North Carolina notes. Quality notes such as these in the Ford-Boyd Collection warrant bids in multiples of the old Very Fine catalogue prices published in the 4th edition Newman catalogue.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
