North Carolina Currency. April 2, 1776 Halifax Issue. Two Dollars and an Half. Hand Clasping Thirteen Arrows Vignette, motto VIS UNITATIS. No.893. Signed by Sumner, Williams, Webb and Haywood. Printed on thick laid paper. Wider format note. Wide floral detail over the motto banner. Vignette with vine underneath. Double border line all around. An excellent period allegory type and motto.
Extremely Fine. A very crisp note with a light vertical fold, some handling ''bends'' and corner rubs. Well margined and deeply embossed with the plate lines showing clearly to the back. A short top edge slit and a pinhole at the right end. The printing at the right end is a little light. Period penned ''Ja.[ames] Craige'' countersignature (seen on other notes of this issue) on the back. Raymond pencil code at back upper right corner. Absolutely untampered with and superb paper quality. A top of the line example of this type note.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
This denomination type commences our observation of thick laid paper usage for some of the notes $2-1/2 and higher. Though this thick paper type was subject to the inherent crease splitting, they still wore much better overall than the thinner paper types.
