North Carolina Currency. April 2, 1776 Halifax Issue. One Eighth of a Dollar. Snake Biting Sword...North Carolina Currency. April 2, 1776 Halifax Issue. One Eighth of a Dollar. Snake Biting Sword in Scabbard Vignette. No.6496. Signed by Alston and Hill. Printed on laid paper. Small format size. Vine border at left and ornaments at right. Another great vignette type and a scarcer low denomination notes. Most notes seen at auction in this day and age are $1 denominated or higher. Very Fine. Vertical crease with a short split at the top. Several other folds and heavy top handling. Mostly bright, though a small tone patch at the right, with a very sharp vignette. The right end is weakly printed, missing the right ornaments, and might be slightly trimmed in. Top left corner tip shaved and the Boyd pencil code at upper right back corner. A very attractive example from the original 12,500 printed. The figure is deceiving as not that many exist to this day. Destroyed, redeemed for later notes or frayed to beyond recognition status.

Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
