North Carolina Currency. April 2, 1776 Halifax Issue. One Eighth of a Dollar. Dog Vignette. No.8041. Signed by Hill and Alston. Printed on laid paper. Small format size. Repeating pattern border at left. There were eight different vignette types used for the $1/8 dollar notes. Each with 12,500 notes printed (That is $12,500 from the authorization or 1% of the issue). This dog (we would have called it a hound) vignette is quite delightful and details his smile and whiskers distinctly.
A sharp impression from a strong plate. A superb example for a lower denomination note from the series. Very Fine to Extremely Fine. A 3/4'' inch vertical split at the top on the hard crease. A paper sheet fold as made and two light diagonal folds. Lightly toned and well margined for the series. A lovely note and an appealing topical type. Old Newman catalogue of $350.00 in Extremely Fine says ''the big Aloha'' in just a moment!
