North Carolina Currency. August 21, 1775 Session at Hillsborough Act. Four Dollars. No.371. Four signatures, signed by Sam.[uel] Johnston, R.[ichard] Cogdell, R.[ichard] Caswell, and Andrew Knox. Printed on laid paper (similar to December 1771 Act paper type). 111mm by 73mm. Uniface, ornate left end border, various fonts with 'No. Carolina Currency' in Gothic type, and vignette at lower left. Vignette with Masonic altar (differing from the Three Dollars note), all seeing eye at top, emblems within sides of the pillars including the beehive and the Ark of the Covenant; motto AERA OF MASONRY around the perimeter. Printed from engraved plates with no imprint. A fourth denomination from this rare series of notes for any example and another interesting vignette. Again, grading standards for notes of this paper type require some ''uniqueness'' of criteria. Fine to Very Fine. A vertical split as often the case. Paper strip repaired from the back. Both halves are bright and crisp still with some light folds, corner creases, and edge handling. This note is nicely margined and presents a strong face. Boyd pencil code ''iry'' on the back.
