State of New York. April 18, 1786. ''Ten'' Pounds. No.1941. Raised Denomination Note from a Genuine One Pound. Signed Evert Bancker and Wm. Heyer. Printed on frail, coarse wove paper. Uniface, ornate border cuts on three sides. Banner at top, 'STATE OF NEW YORK'. New York Arms at the left with motto EXCELSIOR in black. Imprint within bottom border 'Printed by S. Loudon'. A fascinating note and an amazing fourth note on this rare Act. Any note from this Act date is an opportunity, but only collections of this magnitude and tradition contain multiple chances at a rare prize. This is a genuine One Pound note that appears to have been raised twice. First to a Two Pounds note and then to a Ten Pounds Note. The 'S' after 'POUND' is oversize, the large 'T' placed before the old 'ONE' is crude, and the counter under the Arms was left at '2'! Fine or so. Backed onto a thin piece of contemporary paper. Intact from the face with a vertical split that has broken through and been patched on the verso with paper tape. A plethora of pinholes across the top. Modest staining at the right and around the alteration. Quite unique and interesting.
