State of New York. March 27, 1781 Act. Two Dollars. No.182. Signed by A.[ugustin] Lawrence and G. Livingston. Printed on sturdy wove paper, unwatermarked. Style as other denominations on Act. Typeset face (style like the June 15, 1780 Guaranteed Act notes) with border cuts and ornaments, 'State of New-York' at top. Interest statement lower left. Vignetted printed back with vertical sabre with ornate handle. The back is at a ninety degree angle to the face. Imprint 'POUGHKEEPSIE:/Printed by John Holt, 1781.' at the right.
A second excessively rare note from this very important Act. Like the previous note, perhaps unique in private hands. This is The Newman Plate Note, so illustrated on page 288 of the fourth edition. It is the sheet mate to the One Dollar note offered above from the Ford-Boyd Collection and gives us hope that the other five denominations with no Newman descriptions of the back vignettes exist out there somewhere.
Again, an impressive and lovely note in all regards. Extremely Fine and perhaps some will argue better. There are two visible folds across the note, mostly hard to see except with some scrutiny. Handling on the corners is also evident and there is a streak of soiling across the face typeset. Face margins are wide with the back shifted slightly to the left. Such facts are blithely trivial compared to the exceptional rarity and great importance of this note. It is an honor to handle this caliber of note from our home State.
