City and County of Albany. February 17, 1776. One Quarter of a Spanish Milled Dollar or Two Shillings. No.20. Signed by Jacob Cuyler and Jn. T. Beekman [in red]. Printed on laid paper. Uniface, ornate border cuts and type set. Banner 'ALBANY COUNTY' in the top cut. Serial number block lower left with denomination in Gothic sideways in the right end cut. Gordon Harris H3. Rarity 7. The Newman Plate Note, so illustrated on page 283 of the fourth edition.
An exceptional note and likely the highest Condition Census example on the series. We can't imagine a finer example. Vastly superior to the DuPont Collection note (Smythe, March 1993 Sale, Lot 2191 at $528.00). A bold Very Fine. Well margined, bright, crisp and vivid. A vertical crease with a short split at the bottom. The embossing of the printing shows to the back and we emphasize the amazing quality of this note. A piece of paper backing strip on the uniface back top edge. Simply stunning!
