State of New Jersey. 1786. Fifteen Shillings. No.2844. Signed by M. Ewing and B. Van Cleve. Printed on thinner wove paper watermarked 'NEW JERSEY'. Standard face designs with New Jersey State Arms in black. The shield with three plowshares (a motif used on New Jersey coppers) supported by Plenty and Liberty. The texts in black and red. Standard leaf back in black printed by Isaac Collins. At the back left end '...Trenton, ...1786'. The Newman Plate Note, so illustrated on page 260 of the fourth edition.
We continue to remind you that this is a rare series. This is not only an excellent example, but for the issue it is quite stunning. The DuPont Collection was fortunate to have had one in Fine to Very Fine with a stain. That note brought $1,430.00 in 1993. This example does hand stands, cartwheels, and wins the all around gold medal compared to that important note. Obviously, high condition census for the note and series. Perhaps the finest known of the type.
About Extremely Fine. In a way, an unfriendly action to call it that. Vertical fold, two off diagonal fold on the left half and a lower left corner fold. The surfaces and color are immaculate and clean. The margins are tight as typical. Embossed sharply to the back with reflecting mica picking up all the light that seems destined to head towards its riveting beauty. A note that makes collecting New Jersey more and more relevant to those jaded to the plethora of March 25, 1776 notes. Extremely significant and for the highest end collection of any genre of paper money.
