State of New Jersey. December 20, 1783 Act. Twelve Shillings. No.3497. Signed by Ewing and Mott. Printed on coarse stock. Size similar to 1781 issue. Standard designs, State seal on face. Leaf design on back and date '1784'. Trenton printed by Isaac Collins. The Newman Plate Note, so illustrated on page 259 of the fourth edition. A fifth note from this very rare series of hastily withdrawn notes and a second Twelve Shillings. As we stated, the denomination note not represented in the important 1993 DuPont Sale.
This amazing selection on this series is deceiving because this ample selection of notes from the Act in no way renders them as ''common''. On the contrary, this sextet of notes is an historic occasion for New Jersey collectors. We might not see an example of this Act date appear for another decade plus. A pleasing note. Fine Plus. Solid mostly, folded into eighths which seems to have been the norm on this issue. Short, internal splitting present. Lightly aged overall with light soiling on the face and moderate soiling on the back. A pleasing type note and important opportunity.
