Colony of the Massachusetts Bay. August 18, 1775. Forty Shillings. No.2064. Payable on August 18, 1778. Signed by Wheeler, Cushing and Palmer. Revere Sword in Hand Note. Printed on thick, coarse stock. 75mm by 94mm. Standard face and back designs. A second Forty Shillings denomination of this payable date, represented in the epic Ford X Sale offering in May, 2006, similar to the above. An excellent face, but the back is impaired.
Nominally Very Fine Plus, but a severe top back paper remnant and adherent/adjacent ''horse glue'' patch. Part of it touches the patriot's head. The back plate is not as strong as the previous example, but still a superior striking. The paper quality is exceptional and this severe remnant is a shame. However, lovely from the face and a genuine Revere Sword. Collectible despite the fault and the final August, 1775 Revere note in this sale. We stress, few auction venues have offered a dozen or more Sword in Hand notes.
