Colony of the Massachusetts Bay. August 18, 1775. Twenty Four Shillings. No.1387. Payable on August 18, 1778. Signed by Wheeler and Plympton. Revere Sword in Hand Note. Printed on thick, coarse stock. 75mm by 97mm. Standard face and back designs. This denomination represented in the epic Ford X Sale offering in May, 2006, but with a different payable date. Another genuine ''Sword'' and an attractive example.
From the face, Very Fine or so. Toned with some moderate soiling. The back is printed from a strong plate. There is a large red paper remnant, close to an inch wide, at the bottom edge; pencil notation ''not catalogued'' in perhaps Chapman's cursive. The top corners have small paper remnants. Despite these ''issues,'' natural and untampered with Ford-Boyd Collection paper quality. The availability of 36 Shilling counterfeits on this Revere Sword in Hand series (most mediocre in quality as well) has held prices down on genuine notes unjustifiably. These are way underpriced on the present market for rare American paper currency, even when challenged with some flaws.
