State of Maryland. May 10, 1781 Act. Two Shillings and Six Pence. Unnumbered. Signed by I.[saac] McHard and N.[icholas] Harwood. Printed on laid paper. Typeset face with full red border cuts with ornate style. Back with State Arms in red, surrounded by ornate ornamental frame. Imprint 'Printed by F. Green'. Issue backed by confiscated Tory properties. A second denomination on this rare and lovely series of bills. The back pattern design for this denomination is fabulous in its scheme and boldly contrasts with the color. This was the Newman Plate Note in the 1976 Bicentennial edition on page 138.
Choice Extremely Fine, and perhaps finer. The point is academic: one of the finest from the issue seen by us. Bold color on both sides. A light vertical fold, upper left corner rounding and an enlarged pinhole top center. The top margin is tight for the overly particular. A heart-stopping note that matches well with the high grade notes, both the One Shilling and the Three Pounds, we sold in our Ford X Sale in May, 2005. Another census condition note from the Ford-Boyd collection.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
