Maryland. January 1, 1767. Two Dollars or Nine Shillings Sterling. No.11362. Signed by R.[obert] Couden and J.[ohn] Clapham. Printed on sturdy stock. Elaborate border cuts by Sparrow, Colonial Maryland Arms vertically at the right; Two Spanish mainland dollar 8 Reales within the text. Nature print back. Imprint 'Printed by JONAS GREEN' on back. A second Two Dollars note and also the sheet mate to the above Two Thirds of a Dollar above (lot 8139).
Crisp Uncirculated. From the face, appears Choice to Gem. However the back has scattered foxing specks and small patches. Not all that detracting and the paper crispness, body and wide face margins make this quite a strong example. A reminder, any hoard of uncirculated notes were in the coin shops decades ago when paper money (especially Colonial ''junk'') was less than an afterthought. Opportunity to obtain these superb 1767 notes is still knocking.
