Maryland. January 1, 1767. Two Dollars or Nine Shillings Sterling. No.11370. Signed by R.[obert] Couden and J.[ohn] Clapham. Printed on sturdy stock. Elaborate border cuts by Sparrow, Colonial Maryland Arms vertically at the right; Two Spanish mainland dollar 8 Reales within the text. Nature print back. Imprint 'Printed by JONAS GREEN' on back. Another historic type, our first American governmental ''Two Dollar Bill''. Again, the Two Spanish Pillar Coins made for an excellent anti-raising device and pictogram for the many barely literate populace who would have used this note and series.
Another note that is nearly exceptional. Bold and appealing with wide margins at the right and top. Very Choice Crisp Uncirculated. Most cataloguers would call this a Gem note and purists can argue that the right end is handled, but most will call it thick paper deckling as made. There are two petty toning specks on the well centered back. No condition rarity research yet for this available series, but in our opinion, clearly a condition census note. Pairs up beautifully with the previous One Dollar note and obviously from this short run of incredible beauties from multiple decades ago.
