State of Georgia. October 16, 1786. Two Shillings and Six Pence. No.245. Signed by Jones and Freeman....State of Georgia. October 16, 1786. Two Shillings and Six Pence. No.245. Signed by Jones and Freeman. Printed on watermarked paper manufactured by Honig & Zoonen. Visible watermark at left center. Approximately 160mm by 70mm. Georgia Constitution, motto PRO BONO PUBLICO, date '1777' below. Vignette signed 'ABERNATHIE SCULPSIT.' on plinth. Engraved panel at the left. Imprint at the bottom, 'Augusta: Printed by JOHN E. SMITH.' Also, a little scarcer than the higher denominations. Very Fine to Extremely Fine.

Some sharp folds seen from the back, one down the center and two on the corners. Boldly embossed, though tightly margined. A large glue remnant on the back left, but not showing through to the face. Penciled ''91'' [lot number from a sale or inventory number?] on the lower right back corner.

The Six Pence, Shilling and Two Shillings and Six Pence are given a significant premium in the Newman fourth edition and not priced over ''Extremely Fine'' grade. This is appropriate as these appear to have circulated with more frequency and were perhaps redeemed for higher denomination notes.

Lot # 8131
