MARYLAND. American Bank. $1.00, $2.00, and $3.00. Baltimore. 1863. Green pattern tints and lathe work. A handsome series by the National Bank Note Co. The $1.00 note with harbor scene, In Harbor; the $2.00 note with plowing scene, Turning Around; and the $3.00 note with train at depot (used on CSA Type 3 note). The American title was used frequently by Northern banks and was a very patriotic usage. Haxby MD-10 G2a, G4a, and G6a. Choice Very Fine, Choice Very Fine, and Choice Fine. Great color and superbly styled notes. 3 pieces.
The National Bank Note Company was a splinter firm that had associates that did not join the eventual monopoly, American Bank Note Company. Interestingly, this firm produced the First Issue Fractional Currency notes and the Montgomery issued notes for the Confederate States of America.
