South Carolina. October 19, 1776 Ordinance. Ten Dollars (Sixteen Pounds Five Shillings). Drum and Flags Vignette. TUTA PEDAMINE VIRTUS. No.2001. Signed by J.[ohn] S. Dart, Richard Mercer and E.[dward] Blake. Printed on coarse, thick brownish paper. Standard size, approximately 95mm by 75mm. Face style similar to March 6, 1776 with border cuts enclosing text, vignette and motto at lower right. Ornamental printed back with four fleur-de-lys surrounding an 'X'. The back is ''medal turn'' orientation to the face. There were 2,500 notes printed of this highest denomination type from the ordinance.
This issue is notorious for poor face printing quality. From the face, quite a sharp note and very well printed. Very Fine. Creased, seen from the back with some soiling on it. Diagonal upper left corner fold and two corner creases. The lower left has a short split on the edge, just off the crease. Period penned ''4-X'' at back upper left edge. Faint upper right pencil code.
Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate.
